Uzoma Asagwara


QPOC Winnipeg

Uzoma Asagwara is an entrepreneur, public speaker, registered psychiatric nurse and addictions specialist and human rights activist. They are a former member of the Canadian Women’s National Basketball Team and the Premier's Advisory Council on Education, Poverty and Citizenship. Uzoma is the Founder of QPOC Winnipeg (Queer and Trans, Black/Indigenous/People of Colour), and sits on the boards of both Plug In ICA and the Women’s Health Clinic. Uzoma was recognized in CBC’s 2018 “Up Close: Making Canada Better” and more recently, CBC's Manitoba's Top 40 Under 40 and Ace Burpee's Top 100 Most fascinating Manitobans List.

Mayor Brian Bowman is the 43rd Mayor of the City of Winnipeg. As Métis, he is the nation’s first Aboriginal mayor, and is passionate about ensuring Winnipeg is a City that works better for every citizen. Mayor Bowman is committed to building a stronger Winnipeg through greater openness, transparency, and accessibility. A former lawyer, he has served and advocated for the community in many leadership positions with a variety of organizations, including Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, Winnipeg Art Gallery, and Ka Ni Kanichihk. A Winnipegger and family man through and through, Brian enjoys spending time with his wife Tracy and sons Hayden and Austin. He roots for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets.
